TILL NOWAK "COMPLICATIONS"
An exhibition in memory of Leslie Barany
June 24, 2023 - January 7, 2024
To mark the 25th anniversary of the HR Giger Museum at the Chateau Saint Germain in Gruyères (Gruyères), Switzerland, the exhibition "Complications" with works by Till Nowak will take place in the museum and gallery until January 7, 2024.
The Hamburg and Basel-based film production "Ohne Sinn und los - go with the flow" (Cornelia Schiller and Jürg Lützelschwab) accompanied Till Nowak through the exhibition with a very personal interview.
In terms of content, Till Nowak deals with states of manipulation, with imaginable forms of possibility that only narrowly miss reality. The question of how reality is formed - even in exceptional circumstances - is a leitmotif in his work.
Till Nowak met Hansruedi and Carmen Giger in 2007 after his work "Salad" caught the attention of Giger's long-time US agent Leslie Barany. Even as a teenager, Nowak was fascinated and influenced by Giger's film and book publications, which ultimately led him to reinterpret Giger's "Alien" as a vegetable creature looking at a piece of meat. Nowak's work "Salad" achieved viral fame on the World Wide Web and is a cross between the works of Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1526-1593) and HR Giger.
