Excerpt airbrush art by HR Giger

Fantastic realism

The Swiss artist HR Giger is considered one of the most influential protagonists of Fantastic Realism. Giger developed his very own, freehand style with the help of the spray gun. This manifested itself in the surrealistic and biomechanical dreamscapes he created, which became the cornerstones of his fame.

Using the airbrush technique, Giger created exceptionally smooth, flowing images that merged organic forms with mechanical elements. The so-called biomechanoids often appear threatening and fascinating at the same time, with motifs that interweave life and death, eroticism and nightmares.

His work "Necronom IV", which inspired the iconic alien monster, is one of the best-known examples of Giger's airbrush art. The precision and depth of detail the artist achieved with the airbrush technique enhance the eerie and alien atmosphere of his paintings, which continue to have a profound influence on the art world today.
